Free Tax Tips
The 1040EZ is the simplest and fastest tax return to prepare, but
only certain taxpayers are eligible to use the 1040EZ. You are
eligible to use a Form 1040EZ if all of the following requirements
are met:
1. Your filing status is "married filing jointly" or "single".
2. You do not claim any dependents (children, elderly parents,
etc.).
3. You do not claim student loan interest, educator expenses or the
tuition and fees deduction
4. You do not claim an education credit or retirement savings
contribution credit.
5. You and your spouse are younger than 65 and not blind.
6. Your taxable income must be less than $100,000.
7. Your only income is from wages, salaries, tips unemployment
compensation, interest income, taxable scholarships and grants, or
Alaska Permanent Fund dividends. Also, your taxable interest income
must not be over $1,500.
8. You did not receive any advance earned income credit (EIC)
payments.
9. You do not owe any household employment taxes on wages you paid
to a household employee.
